What will happen during my first driving lesson in Ipswich?

Lots of people worry that they will be thrown in at the deep end during their first lesson, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! In fact, you may find that you don’t do that much driving at all. Your first lesson is all about getting to know the car and how it works, but before anything else, you will meet your instructor, and they will check your licence before driving you to a quiet area. So you don’t need to worry about navigating the town centre or figuring out how to exit a roundabout!

What will I learn?

Your first driving lesson isn’t going to cover anything too complex. You will be talked through the cockpit drill, otherwise known as DSSSM (Doors, Seat, Steering, Seatbelt, and Mirrors). After this, you’ll be introduced to the pedals, and if you are learning in a manual car, the gear stick. Then, towards the end of the lesson, you will move off for the first time before stopping. You’ll repeat this a few times to help you get the hang of it, but this will be the extent of the driving that you do. Phew!
