We cover Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding villages, including Great Barton, Fornham All Saints, Horringer, Rougham, Thurston, Ixworth and Westley, so wherever you are starting from, getting to your lessons should never be a barrier to learning to drive. Learning the roads around Bury St Edmunds
One of the advantages of learning with a local driving school is that your instructor already understands what the test centre and the surrounding roads will throw at you. The Bury St Edmunds test centre sits on St Andrews Street North, right in the heart of town, which means your test route is likely to begin with busy town centre traffic, pedestrian crossings and roads near West Suffolk Hospital where you will need to stay alert for emergency vehicles.
From there, routes typically move out towards the A14, A134 and A143, giving you experience of higher speed roads and changing speed limits, before often guiding you through quieter residential areas such as those around Westley and Fornham All Saints, where manoeuvres are commonly carried out. The DVSA stopped publishing fixed test routes back in 2010, so rather than memorising a set path, your instructor will focus on making sure you are comfortable and confident on the full range of roads and conditions you are likely to encounter on test day, whatever direction your particular route happens to take.

Easing your nerves
We know that learning to drive can be scary at first, and for some learners that anxiety stays with them as they learn. We are not here to put you under any pressure or push you before you are ready. Your instructor will work with you to build your confidence and show you that you can drive safely, and will be on hand to answer all of the questions you have about the process.
Our aim is for you to feel comfortable and relaxed during your lessons, so you can focus on your driving and take another step towards your test. Many learners tell us that this steady, supportive approach is what helped them go from feeling anxious behind the wheel to genuinely enjoying their lessons.
Theory test support
You cannot book your practical test until you have passed your theory. Some learners choose to take their theory test before they begin lessons, but if you wait until you start learning to drive, we will be on hand with advice and support. We provide all of our pupils with theory test study materials as well as expert guidance as they work their way towards the test.
As your practical test approaches, we also carry out mock driving tests that closely mirror the real thing. These help to highlight any areas that need a little more practice and give you the best possible chance of passing, so that when the real test arrives, it feels like just another lesson rather than something unfamiliar.
