- Having the opportunity to grow your own successful business
…These are just some of the fantastic benefits of training to be a driving instructor!
What qualifications do you need?

You will however need to:

- Have a clean driving license – but you could be considered even if you have points on your driving licence
How long does it take to qualify as a driving instructor?
To qualify as a driving instructor, the process can often take around one year; this will depend on your other commitments and the exam waiting lists. It is possible to do this sooner, and the main thing to remember is that the maximum time you can take is 2 years. That is from passing the first exam, to the date you pass the 3rd and final exam.
Where do I start with becoming a driving instructor?
The first thing you must do is apply to join the register. To do this you will need a DBS check and apply online. While you are waiting for this registration process, there is no reason why you cannot start training for the first exam.

What are the training sessions like?
Part 1
Like most driving instructor training companies, we don’t have a massive amount of involvement with this exam unless you require our assistance. We do supply you with the necessary study materials, but you can train for this in your own home on a phone, tablet or computer.
Part 2
Part 2 training is mostly in the car, working on your own driving skills. With our full package we do offer training videos to help you make the most out of your training sessions. These videos help you so you can come fully prepared for each session as well help you re cap on anything you feel you could improve on.
On average to get someone to a Part 2 test standard takes around 8 to 10 hours in car training plus home study of our training videos and private practice in your own car. Very similar with learner drivers, everyone is different. Depending on your needs these sessions will often be delivered in two to four-hour blocks.
During this time we will cover various types of road, traffic conditions and parking manoeuvres, whilst discussing safest way to carry out these exercises and discussing the dangers if we don’t do them correctly, as well as looking at if you were training someone, how would you deal with these situations.
Part 3
The part three exam is your final exam and will be the bulk of your training. This part of the training is where you learn how to teach someone to drive. We will be looking at not only the subjects but the different skills and teaching styles that will help you to become a good driving instructor.
This lasts around 40 hours and is normally done in half days or full days, as with the previous exams there will be videos and home study helping you to prepare or reflect on your training.
Often in the part three training, your driving instructor trainer will play the role of the pupil and simulate faults to recreate real situations. Your trainer will also help, support and guide you on the various ways to deal with these situations.
