How to Build Confidence Driving in Busy Towns vs. Rural Areas

BOOK NOW

Your Essential Guide

Learning to drive is about two things: learning about the rules of the road and how the car works, and confidence. Today we’ll be focusing on the latter. Becoming confident behind the wheel is vital if you are going to really get the most out of being able to drive, and your lessons are where you are going to build that confidence. That is going to look a little different depending on where you are learning to drive. So here is how to become more confident driving in town, country or even both!

Learning in a town

The first time you get behind the wheel in a busy town centre, it is so easy to feel overwhelmed. Some of our top tips for learning to drive in busier areas are:

  • Schedule some of your lessons during rush hour. This will not only help you build confidence with more cars on the road but will also teach you what to do when you are spending extended periods of time in traffic.
  • Be aware of bikes and buses. These will be your constant companions in town centres, so learn what you need to do to drive safely alongside them.
  • Keep an eye on your speed. Lots of town centres are introducing 20mph zones, so you need to be aware of how fast you are driving.
  • Keep a lookout for one-way streets in your area. There are many of these in busy towns to manage the flow of traffic.

Learning in the country

Learning in the country comes with totally different challenges than in more built-up areas. Some of our top tips for drivers in rural areas are:

  • Quieter roads don’t mean that you can relax and become complacent. Always keep an eye on your surroundings.
  • Rural areas have roads that are narrow, winding and have high speed limits. These can take some getting used to.
  • Those higher speed limits don’t mean that you need to drive at that speed all the time. Driving in the country means constantly adjusting for what is safe.
  • Rural driving means that you will often share the road with animals. From people riding horses to wildlife darting out in front of the car, you need to keep your eyes peeled.

Testimonials

I was taught by Geoff for about 2 months and I went to my test and passed the first time with this company and I would highly recommend Geoff and the company ad he teaches really well, he ensures that you end up being a driver and not a learner and i felt that is a really respectable quality when it comes to a teacher. I could not say any bad experience and was extremely happy

For any one wanting to learn to drive but not sure who to go with I definitely recommend Nayland, with his great help I passed first time and in just over three months, the lessons were great I always looked forward to them as Michael is a lovely guy and very down to earth, and up for a laugh 🙂 but he is also very patient for any one who is nervous about driving. 🙂

I passed my test first time, I didn’t need to use any other instructor as Michael gave me all the advice I needed, down to earth, practical and easy to understand. While learning to drive can be stressful, Micheal made it so easy for me. I enjoyed learning and looked forward to the lessons as they were really enjoyable, if you want to learn to drive with someone that will make it enjoyable and practical Micheal is the guy! guy.

Before having Michael as a driving instructor I was with someone else! I was given his number through a recommendation, and his lessons gave me the confidence to pass my test! Michael has great prices and deals, to suit anyone! I have now been driving a year, and I have recommended many people to go with him and they have gone on to pass very fast! 🙂

Amy Cowlin
